The bottom is made of catalpa wood and lacquered in chestnut-brown. The name of the qin can be translated as, ‘the sound of water coming from a spring as that coming from the base of the tongue.’

未上色時的樣子 材質用台灣檜木 ---------------------------------------------------- 參考資料 清夜鐘 清　咸豐（1851-1861A.D.） 長119.5　寬（額17.9,肩19,尾12）　厚5.6公分 漆色斷紋：原為朱漆，於琴名附近面漆剝落處可見，其後改為黑漆，未見斷紋。 琴材配件：桐木面板，螺細徽，牛角軫，烏木雁足。岳山、承露、龍齦、冠角等俱以紅木製成。 琴腹款識：龍池內兩旁倒刻隸書兩行： 咸豐庚申錦江葉介福監製 第四　梓工何湧山造 琴背銘文：軫池下刻大字篆書琴名「清夜鐘」三字 Qingye zhong (clear night-bell) qin Zhongni (Confucian) style Qing Dynasty, dated Xianfeng gengshen year (1860) Length 119.5 cm; width (forehead 17.9 cm, shoulder 19 cm, tail 12 cm); thickness 5.6 cm It is made of tong wood and was originally lacquered in red, but was subsequently lacquered in black. No patterns of cracks are yet discernible in the black lacquer.
